Mastodon’s New Single “Curl Of The Burl” Available For Streaming, Cover Art Revealed
Mastodon‘s new track “Curl Of The Burl” has leaked out online and can be streamed below. The song is due to see a digital release tomorrow, August 16th, with the cover art available below. It comes from the bands new album “The Hunter“, which will land in stores on September 27th.

I got my pre-order email and downloaded the track last night. Good, but I think I like Black Tongue better.
Hm. S’okay… I’m starting to think they peaked at “Blood Mountain”. Which is fine with me.
black tongue was ok, but this blows. and so will the new album, apparently.
I agree that the song isn’t that good, even though everyone on the Mastodon board is loving it, but to say that the whole album will suck because of this song is just plain ignorant.

So far, it sounds like this is what they’re trying to do with this whole album. Sounds pretty thin and watered down. No chug.

This song’s a little weak by Mastodon’s standards. Verse, chorus, verse, chorus, solo, chorus. Simple is good but this is way too predictable. I like Black Tongue a lot so I hope the rest of the album is better. They have said in an interview that this album is all over the place so let’s hope this is the only poppy song. I don’t mind the singing that much but I want to hear some Mastodon riffage!
I like it, but I think Crack The Skye is their best album. I love all the old stuff as much as anyone, but I like the ZZ Top-ish style they’re growing into.
They’ve said on multiple occasions that this album is going to be more straight forward rock than they’ve done in the pants. Nice to know that there’s so many people with so many expectations about what bands are allowed to do with their music. Is this different than their past stuff? Yes, fairly different. Is it bad by any means? No, it’s not.

I don’t know if I’m just too loaded, even for afternoon standards, but I like this track, it’s fucking groovy. I’m stoked for new Mastodon, regardless if they tone it down or not, there’s plenty of catalog to fall back on if you’re craving more brash Mastodon.
Catchy. I like it. Brent’s vocals are sounding a lot better in these new tracks. He doesn’t sound like he’s as seriously constipated. Also, saying ‘Curl of the Burl’ is quite fun. Just rolls off the tongue.
Funky, really digging the guitar sound.
Concur with the last 3 gentleman….although this is probably the “poppiest” and most standard song they’ve written, it’s still Mastodon and still a fun song. I really appreciate that they continue to make new sounds and sound so different from album to album…it’s what makes them still so unique.

I first read ‘poppiest’ as ‘poopiest’ – I laughed….out loud. Despite it being a small thing, I assure you, I have a large mind. And now I’m finding this comment awfully boring because the moment has passed and I’m thinking about getting my tax return done.
They also said this album was going to be practically death metal. I guess Deathbound is pretty metal, and that’s going to be on the limited edition
