Very excited, but would rather not let this so-so quality live recording affect my opinion.
I just saw them open for Soundgarden they played like 4 new songs. They were all unbelievably good. I cannot wait for a new album. From the songs I heard it has a chance to be special.
New drummer sounded good then, Jay?
4 new songs Jay? That’s impressive. Soundgarden was really generous allowing them to play a 2 hour set.
New drummer is no Thomas Pridgen for sure. Cedric made a comment in a interview about the drumming on the new stuff not sounding like mosquitos buzzing in your ears, which I took as a slight against Pridgen. While the new drummer is good, the new stuff is less spastic, kind of like Octahedron. The only previously released song they played was “Goliath” and it was the slowed down version, previously known as “Rapid-fire Tollbooth” on “Se Dice Bisonte, No Bufalo”, Omar’s solo album. Deantoni Parks locks into a groove and it sounds great, and he very well may be able to pull off the older material but he didn’t show any sign of it. @Honolulu as far as the song lengths, they were pretty concise, I could be wrong but no song ran longer then 6-7 mins, and a couple clocked in at around 5 mins. No epic 23 minute “Echoes” style suites, but fucking incredible nonetheless.
I hope Omar will release a bazillion new solo albums before a new Mars Volta record is done
@allichs wouldn’t be surprised at all
The songs sounded done, I guess they’re just road-testing them before they put them down. When they hit the stage they got a luke-warm response, by the end the crowd was going ballistic. Some live versions of the new songs are on youtube. Titles include: “Aegis”, “Molochwalk”, “Dyslexicon”, “Jewel”, “The Whip Hands”
I love this band. @HonoluluBlueBalls. LMFAO
I missed the ‘new name memo’, william?
Sounds like Cedric then might be a little butthurt about Thomas leaving for other projects. I’m bummed about that, too. But I’ve never heard a Volta track that hasn’t left me blown away in a different dimension… so I don’t think I’ll be disappointed.
“Octahedron” style is definitely alright with me, that CD is a 10 in my book.
Thanks for the insight Jungle Jay..
OoOo…we’re all here.
Good stuff, my man.
Ready for more good news..
New Chili Peppers CD Aug. 30: “I’m With You”.

Is wook not into ‘em? Just wondering since Jane’s Addiciton, Nirvana, and Soundgarden is covered, but not STP or RHCP.
Yeah, I read about their new record awhile back. The cover art is pretty sweet too – http://www.antiquiet.com/news/2011/07/red-hot-chili-peppers-im-with-you-cover-art/
-Should be interesting with their new guitarist too.
-Not sure about why they’re not covered. I don’t the band ever has been on here. Likewise, STP.
*think.
Yeah that fly’s gonna get FUCT UP!
Might as well, since it only has 10-25 days to live.
I’m not really digging the first single released from it, however. ‘The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie’ is a little boring, to be honest.
Huge RHCP fan, they were my first concert. RHCP, Silverchair, and The Rentals. I’m very sad to see Frusciante gone, wish he could balance the solo thing with being in a band like Omar Rodriguez-Lopez does. Klinghoffer had been Frusciante’s right hand man and protege for some time so I imagine the sound won’t stray much. The first single reminds me of a song off “By The Way”, I dig it. Looking forward to this one for sure,
