Fuck yeahayah!
Best news i’ve heard all week
I know right? It’s only been 4 freakin years without fresh MH. They CANNOT slide into Tool territory from this point on.
Seriously…about goddamn time!!
I hope it’s better than the Blackening. This album was extremely overrated, and I hope the band makes shorter and groovier songs, just like the Burn my Eyes/The more Things Change Days. The whiny emo-esque vocals also have to go : MH used to be a full-on metal band, and I miss that 1994-1997 band.
machine fucking head! thank god! and just in time to show some new tunes at the mayhem fest….hopefully
Am I the only one that thinks that flanger in the beginning sounds tacky? They seem to use that a lot
Is much as I love Burn My Eyes and The More Things Change, I think The Blackening was amazing. Thats the first album they’ve done since TMTC that I liked. Hopefully the new album is along the same lines. With all these nu metal bands coming back around, Machine Head may relapse.
Haha After that rap metal album they did, I just can’t find it in my heart to forgive them. Plus I just don’t like Flynn at all.
@chtimixeur: TTAOE and The Blackening not full on metal? OK… @Natemare: I know as a longtime fan I’m supposed to worship Burn My Eyes and TMTC above all else, and I do love them to death, but honestly I think their last 2 albums have been their best work so far. They took the best elements of all previous albums and made it fucking seamless.
And seriously, a relapse? A little paranoid, don’t you think? They flirted with nu metal a bit when it was big, but it was never the core of their identity. Although some of the better nu metal bands have survived and a few are trying to jump back on the horse, as a trend it is dead and gone.
Viking you hit the nail right on the head, couldn’t agree more. I like the way he’s going on about shorter groovier songs being more metal, fuck that. bring on the epicness of the blackening and then some
Agreed with Brendan and Viking. Machine Head are just awesome. I can’t wait for the new material.
the blackening got me into this band. aside from that crap “the burning red” the few other titles I have bought since then by them are great. I am pumped. and I love tacos.
@Viking : before you call me a hater, let me tell you I bought their last albums on day one, and I’ve been a fan for a long time. But to me, TTAOE is a terrible album with only one amazing song (Imperium) and 9 fillers. Just because MH returned to a more agressive style doesn’t mean the album was good… The Blackening is not that much better : Asthetics of Hate and A Farewell to Arms are great, but the rest of the album is so boring… There is no groove anymore, the riffs are bland, and I think the songs lack focus because of their lenghth. Moreover, the vocals lack direction (Wolves, anyone ?!!), the vocal melodies are terrible (will Robb every stop whining on every chorus ?!!!), and the arrangements need a lot of improving. Each song could be drastly improved, and that’s why I wish they hired a producer again to guide them and give them some advice. BME and TMTC were both produced by Colin Richardson, and both albums were awesome from start to finish (they’re definitely my favourite metal albums of the last 20 years). Robb Flynn may know how to technically record an album, but that doesn’t mean he knows how to produce. The drums sound completely artificial (get rid of those damn triggers !), and they should definitely be rawer. McClain will never be as good as Kontos was, but he showed he could be great on TMTC : I’d like to hear that raw energy of his again. Finally, as crazy as it may sound, I think Machine Head have been worse and worse after each album (Supercharger and The burning Red had their flows, but the songwriting was still strong, and the albums had a great direction and unity). For the first time ever, I’m not even excited by their forecoming album, because I’m pretty sure it will blow.
I first got into this band when I saw them live with Obituary right after BME came out – I didn’t know what the fuck was happening it was so heavy. I truly think the drums have a lot to do with MH and really any band. Kontos was so so heavy but fresh and loose. I agree that the producer, Richardson, helped out a lot and maybe that’s why I didn’t realize that McClain was a terrible drummer when TMTC came out – but damn, he is so weak on The Blackening (it took me a while to get my interest back after TBR came out). With Flynn being a songwriter/producer and all I don’t know how his band has had such lackluster drumming – especially since he knows what his material sounds like with a monster behind the kit. So, like most fans, I really dug The Blackening and how they went for longer songs, etc. – but it’s a fucking struggle for me to get over the tired drumming so I can enjoy the rest of the band on the album.
Fuck chtimixeur, why don’t you join the band and show them how it’s done? You seem like someone who has a shit load of time on their hands………….dick!
@chtimixeur: fair enough, I respect your opinion, even though I disagree about 100%, except for the part about The Burning Red and Supercharger. I like those albums too for the same reasons. But I simply cannot agree with you and Dax about McClain; I fucking love his drumming and he crushes it live. As good as Kontos was, he’s been gone for 1 1/2 decades. Machine Head, like all long running bands, is an INSTITUTION greater than any single individual, so as a loyal fan I won’t stay hung up on an ancient former member.
Well in that case, make it 98%. Excuse my poor math
I know I’m late on this one but shitmixeur and dax need to avoid smoking crack, or bashing their heads against solid objects or whatever the fuck it is you’ve done to yourselves to cause such brain damage… Bordering on retardation seriously ttaoe and the blackening are what REAL metal is all about and each artist involved has provided a masterful performance. But then again maybe johnnyR. is right, maybe you fuckers should join this band and show em how its done right?
