Failure‘s reunion has now officially been confirmed with the band set to play their first live show together in over fifteen years at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, CA on February 13th. Band frontman Ken Andrews said of the decision to reunite:
“Once you put aside all the historical baggage, hype, regrets, etc., there is one truth that remains. When we play music together something happens that is very hard to define and equally difficult to duplicate.”
Andrews also chatted with Spin.com about the groups decision to reform. Some excerpts from that can be found below:
On new music and current plans:
“I don’t really know. At this point, the only for-sure plan is this show at the El Rey. I have a feeling it’s gonna turn into more than that. We haven’t finished anything yet, but we have a few recordings that show that we have something left to say musically.”
On the possibility of playing “Fantastic Planet” in full:
“We’ve talked about doing that quite a few times, and I think eventually we may do that, but we are not gonna do that for the first show. Because we really want to do some of the older songs. I would say 50/60 percent will be from Fantastic Planet.
But there’s at least four, five, six other songs from the first two records that we really want to play live, because I think we actually play them live better than they’re recorded, and we just really enjoy them. But we want to do that eventually.”
There’s also a special bonus in store for those who purchase tickets at select locations. According to an official press release:
“Tickets for the special evening are on-sale this Thursday, Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. A limited edition 7-inch featuring two rarities will be available to the first 250 ticket purchasers at these exclusive outlets: Amoeba Music (6400 W. Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles), Origami Vinyl (1816 W. Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles) and Axs.com”
As previously reported, a remastered version of the bands “Magnified” effort will be released on vinyl for this years Black Friday (November 29th) Record Store Day festivities.
