Omar Rodriguez-Lopez was recently asked about the status and the future of The Mars Volta by Consequenceofsound.net. In an interview which can be found below, Rodríguez-López said of the outfit’s status:
“The simplest way to answer it is… I don’t close doors, I only open new ones, first of all. And second of all I could never consider myself in or out of Mars Volta ’cause that’s something that we created together. And so therefore it becomes something much larger than any of the five members of it.”
“…I wouldn’t even know what that is… it’s an amazing experience that we had together. And, like, it doesn’t die because five dudes don’t get onstage and play the songs. So as far as like what fans should think or whatever, like, they should sigh in relief and enjoy life and enjoy music… Oh here’s the easiest way to [explain it] I spent ten years saying I’ll never play with this fucking guy and you know Jim Ward‘s one of my closest friends now. You know what I mean? So it’s all a matter of how you want to live your life really.”
“And Cedric has a record coming out, you know that’s going to be great. It only means right now more music. That’s such a weird thing to obsess over. Cedric‘s got a record coming out, Marcel has a record coming out, everybody who does something has a record coming out.”
Vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala announced his departure from The Mars Volta via a series of a series of tweets earlier this year. Bixler-Zavala has a new album in the works with Jonny Polonsky on guitars/keys/lap steel, etc.; Juan Alderete (ex-The Mars Volta) on bass and Gregory Rogove on drums.
Omar Rodríguez-López has been busy with Bosnian Rainbows—an outfit that also features ex-The Mars Volta drummer, Deantoni Parks. Their debut album is on course for a June 25th release date through Sargent House.
