The Smashing Pumpkins‘ new single “Black Stars” has received its online premiere, arriving as part of the soundtrack to the upcoming film ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping‘. Earlier in the year, the alternative rock outfit revealed they had been in the studio working with producer Butch Vig (Nirvana, Helmet), marking their first new track together in some 32 years. Vig also co-produced The Smashing Pumpkins‘ debut album “Gish” and its 4x platinum follow-up “Siamese Dream“.
“Black Stars” has origins dating back to a solo album The Smashing Pumpkins mastermind Billy Corgan was working on, but was eventually repurposed for this soundtrack. It was recorded at Chaplin Studios in Los Angeles, with additional tracking taking place in the band’s hometown of Chicago, IL. ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping‘ will open in theaters on November 18th, with the soundtrack for the film scheduled for a November 13th release.
