The Smashing Pumpkins‘s Billy Corgan has revealed that the band has reunited with producer/musician Butch Vig (Garbage) in the studio. In addition to helming landmark albums from Nirvana, Helmet and more, Vig also co-produced The Smashing Pumpkins‘ platinum-selling 1991 debut album “Gish“, and their 4x platinum 1993 sophomore album “Siamese Dream” alongside Corgan.

According to Corgan he and his The Smashing Pumpkins bandmates James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlain recently laid down a new single with Vig. However, if you want to hear more about it for now, Corgan is inviting fans to signup for his Substack.

Corgan stated on social media today of this reunion, May 20th:

“Back in the studio with Butch Vig (@butchvigmusic) for the first time in 32 years! James, Jimmy, and I had an awesome time recording this new single, and if you want to hear more about it please check out my Substack”

Sharing further details on Substack, Corgan revealed that one song was recorded with Vig and it’s for a “specific purpose” which he has yet to divulge. However, he did note that the song will be arriving this year and is roughly “98% done.” The Smashing Pumpkins have a big year ahead of them, with plans for a Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness” 30th anniversary tour having been revealed this past weekend.
