Today, September 16th, serves as the first anniversary of the tragic passing of At The Gates, Disfear, etc. vocalist Tomas “Tompa” Lindberg. The influential Swedish musician fought a valiant battle against adenoid cystic carcinoma, which he was first diagnosed with back in December of 2023. Unfortunately that cancer ultimately claimed his life at the age of 52.
Amid his illness, he managed to lay down the vocals for what would become his final album with At The Gates, “The Ghost Of A Future Dead“. That effort was posthumously released this past April. Today his band members took to social media to reflect on their fallen friend and bandmate, offering the following via the below embedded Instagram post:
“Tomas.
Today marks one year since you left us. It still feels unfathomable, and the pain of losing you remains really immense. The world without you feels like an empty place and we are still learning how to navigate life without you.
You were one of the kindest, most generous, funniest person that we got to know, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to be your friend and to create music together.
We would also like to express our deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to all the fans for your kind words, stories, and photos of Tomas.
Your messages have meant more to us than we can put into words.
