Alternative metal stars Bring Me The Horizon have officially opened the box of worms that is their forthcoming re-recording of their 2006 debut album “Count Your Blessings“. While now known as arena headlining alternative metal stars, the origins of the band found them emerging on the scene as an abrasive deathcore outfit. In celebration of that record turning 20, the group have set out to do it justice decades later, after being unhappy with the production of it for decades.

Buster Odeholm of thrown, Vildhjarta, etc. was brought on to mix this newly re-recorded take on that record, which will be arriving on July 10th under the banner of “Count Your Blessings – Repented“. The re-recorded version of “Black & Blue” is the first track to hit the net. It is now streaming below, with fan discourse on whether or not they’ve done it justice sure to follow.

While Bring Me The Horizon largely turned a blind eye to their deathcore roots amid their ascent to stardom, that decision wasn’t solely on wanting to make more melodic music or chase commercial success. Speaking last month of the misconceptions fans have surrounding “Count Your Blessings“, frontman Oli Sykes told told Nik Nocturnal:

“I think a lot of people think that we hate that record or are embarrassed about it, ’cause we don’t play it and stuff, but really we were just always disappointed with how it sounded. Like, I remember we weren’t stoked on it at all when we came out of the studio.”

Sykes went on to blame the production of Dan Sprigg as being a sticking point on the overall sonics of the record, citing his relative inexperience with the deathcore genre. Sykes pointed out in that chat with Nik that Sprigg‘s resume that ultimately didn’t exactly mesh with what Bring Me The Horizon had been hoping to achieve, with his previous credit being British pop/soul band Simply Red.

Several 20th anniversary live celebrations of “Count Your Blessings” are currently planned, with the below dates booked:
