Multi-instrumentalist Max Portnoy (Tallah, Code Orange) took up Drumeo on their ‘For The First Time’ challenge, taking on a marathon opus from Rock & Roll Hall Of Famers Led Zeppelin. This newly released episode finds Max following in the footsteps of his father, acclaimed Dream Theater, etc. drummer Mike Portnoy, has also spent some time at Drumeo, including a stint alongside Max himself.
Max‘s challenge came in the form of “In My Time Of Dying” — a song he was unfamiliar with prior. Max‘s introduction to the 1975 track came via a version that had the percussion removed. Max had some big shoes to fill on that 11-minute plus offering, not only due its lengthy, but also having to stack up against the original percussion from late drumming legend John Bonham.
