Today, February 03rd, saw the official ‘Ozzfest‘ social media accounts post a tease of the once dominant annual summer metal/rock festival’s potential return in 2027. While there’s yet to be an official announcement regarding it’s resurrection, founder Sharon Osbourne recently told Billboard:
“I’ve been talking to Live Nation about bringing [Ozzfest] back recently. It was something Ozzy was very passionate about: giving young talent a stage in front of a lot of people. We really started metal festivals in this country. It was [replicated but] never done with the spirit of what ours was, because ours was a place for new talent. It was like summer camp for kids.”
It was further noted that the fest would likely return as a version more akin to its previous touring incarnation, rather than the destination festival format it ended in back in 2018. Early editions of the ‘Ozzfest‘ helped supercharge the careers of the likes of Slipknot, System Of A Down and many more.
It would appear that trend of giving a platform to new blood is something Sharon would like to continue, indicating to the aforementioned publication that she has been on the hunt for new artists. She did also note that she would, “like to mix up the genres” for this comeback, should it materialize.
If the influential festival once again return, one could likely expect it to serve in part as a tribute to its patriarch Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away in July of 2025.
