Ghost‘s 2018 cover of the Pet Shop Boys‘ “It’s A Sin” has newly made its way to streaming services. While perhaps a bit of digital housekeeping, the release of this cover of the 1987 synth-pop track has been explained in the band’s canon as the result of a loophole being exploited by the band’s former vocalist Frater Imperator.
As the band have told it, he was sidelined by the instatement of the group’s latest frontpersona Papa V Perpetua — a demotion that has left him saddled with an administrative role in the group’s so-called clergy. You can find a clever retro lyric video of sorts for this cover below.
The Swedish occult rockers originally released this cover as a bonus track to their fourth studio album, “Prequelle“. A cover of Leonard Cohen‘s “Avalanche” also appeared as a bonus offering on that record and remains officially absent on streaming services.
