After recently making headlines for her her lively death metal performance at the Miss Mundo Chile (aka Miss World Chile) semifinals, Decessus vocalist/model Ignacia Fernández has been crowned Miss Mundo Chile. Speaking on her social media today, November 10th, she said of taking home the honor:
“Couldn’t be more happier and grateful! I take on this beautiful challenge with all the energy and heart put into representing my country in the best way
I promise to give it my all, with passion, labor and purpose.
Thank you for the worldwide recognition of my singing, a little piece of my soul that inspires me to keep growing and dreaming big.
Let’s go all the way Chile…. for that crown!”
Fernández‘s decision to sing an as-yet unreleased song from her progressive death metal band Decessus alongside her bandmate Carlos Palma (guitars) was certainly a bold choice — not to mention an unconventional development for a national beauty pageant. After that performance aired, Fernández personally addressed her passion for metal on her social media, offering:
“Metal has been a fundamental part of who I am as a person and in my life: a refuge, a source of strength and purpose. Being able to express it on stage at @chilevision and @misschilemundo was an opportunity I deeply value.
It was a great experience to break down barriers on open television, inspire, be real with it and show that you don’t have to fear the prejudices of others.
Thanks to my band @carlospalmaofficial and @decessus_official for accompanying me and to everyone who has shown their support horns up.”
