Hot off of playing their first shows of 2025 this week, Foo Fighters have issued a new AI-generated video touting the band’s brand of ,”100% real, raw human element of rock n’ roll.” You can watch that tongue-in-cheek clip unfold below, complete with an impressive introduction to the latest man to take up arms behind the group’s drum kit: Ilan Rubin.
The latter joined the band over the summer, after Josh Freese was fired from that role. Rubin vacated his spot in Nine Inch Nails to join the Foos, leading Freese to reclaim his spot behind the drum kit with the aforementioned industrial metal legends. Ironically, it was also Freese who held the drumming position in Nine Inch Nails prior to Rubin‘s run with Trent Reznor and co..
The Foo Fighters opted for an intimate setting for their big return, playing the 900 capacity Fremont Theater in San Luis Obispo, CA last Saturday, September 13th, marking their first show in roughly a year. The alternative rock chart-toppers had remained dormant on the live front prior in a hiatus seemingly sparked by Dave Grohl‘s public admission of infidelity last fall.
Last night, September 15th, the group hit the stage in an intimate setting again, this time for a pop-up show at the 972 capacity venue The Observatory in Santa Ana, CA.
While the group’s current live activities remain relatively limited, they did offer a somewhat tantalizing hint at what’s next towards the end of this newly shared video, offering the message “Stay tuned… There’s more to come!!!”
Meanwhile, Rubin took to social media earlier this week to comment on his first show with the Foos, stating:
“Last night with @foofighters could not have been a better time. After keeping my head down for a couple wild months and throwing myself into the material, that first show was such an incredible release of energy. I’ve been taken aback by all the positivity and support, and I just wanted to say thanks! Excited for all the volume and sweat that lies ahead.”
