To say that gold-certified metalcore turned alternative rock band Asking Alexandria‘s set at last month’s ‘Vans Warped Tour‘ stop at the RFK Stadium Grounds in Washington, DC was troubled is a bit of an understatement. That lackluster performance, which was livestreamed across the internet, led to a veritable fan revolt online, with many detractors calling for vocalist Danny Worsnop to step down.
The outrage over the set was enough that not only did the band’s bassist Sam Bettley issue an indirect apology, Worsnop‘s previous replacement in the band Denis Stoff also came out to snipe his aforementioned predecessor and eventual successor in the group.
Several weeks after the set, Worsnop broke his silence to discuss that infamous set, citing technical issues with gear at the set, a change in sound crew ahead of the show, and illness, among other issues as having derailed that show.
This past Sunday, July 27th, the band got a second chance, having taken to the stage for a performance at the Long Beach, CA stop of 30th anniversary ‘Vans Warped Tour‘ fest. Despite Worsnop‘s apprehension about partaking in livestreams in general, that set was once again broadcast across the internet.
So far, the general consensus suggests that the set was much improved from the band’s previous set, though criticisms remain over Worsnop‘s reliance on backing tracks for the heavier aspects found on earlier songs from the band’s catalog.
