The long-awaited reveal of new music from Sacramento, CA-based alternative metal luminaries Deftones is finally upon us. After hitting the studio in early 2024, co-producing with Nick Raskulinecz (Alice In Chains, Foo Fighters), the multi-platinum outfit have premiered their new single “my mind is a mountain“. It’s the first new music from the storied group to surface since 2020’s “Ohms“.
The track is also the lead single from their tenth studio album, “private music“. Aligning with previous rumors, that album will indeed be arriving this summer, with an August 22nd release date officially having been set.
That full-length opus is set to release amid the group’s ongoing career renaissance. Spurred by viral interest from younger audiences flocking to the band, the veteran outfit were able to comfortably headline an arena tour earlier this year, playing some of their biggest shows to date. More recently, they also landed a slew of new platinum and gold singles.
“private music” sees the infusion of some new blood into the mix, marking their recorded debut with bassist/vocalist Fred Sabian, who took over from Sergio Vega back in 2022.
