Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello‘s new solo track “Pretend You Remember Me” has landed online. This latest track from the Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer is, in his own words, “dedicated to all the families torn apart by state violence and injustice.” He said of it:

“This song is written for all the families torn apart by the recent immigrant purges and kidnappings. Children torn from their wailing mothers’ arms by masked government thugs, people coming home to find their loved ones abducted by the state. Folks who worked, suffered, and struggled for decades just to make a decent life for themselves and their family were violently separated with an uncertain future.

Pretend You Remember Me‘ is for them and for all those who are finding the courage to stand up against racism, tyranny and injustice.”

Morello took on the job of directing the video for the song, which was filmed on site at Picaresca Barra De Cafe in Boyle Heights, CA. Morello has been a frequent participant in rallies and protests of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s immigration raids conducted this year, taking part in several protests and staging a benefit concert for the The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights.

This new video notably features a cameo from Leonard Peltier, an indigenous rights activist who had his sentence commuted to indefinite house arrest this past January. Getting Peltier released from his imprisonment for disputed murder charges of two FBI agents back in 1975 was a cause Rage Against The Machine actively rallied behind.

Fresh off of serving as the musical director for various supergroup tributes to Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne at last weekend’s ‘Back To The Beginning‘, Morello has a busy state of touring Canada mapped out for the immediate future:
