Nuclear Blast Records Announce They Are Leaving Social Media Platform X

Veteran heavy metal label Nuclear Blast have announced they are exiting social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter.) The label did not appear to clarify the reason behind their exodus from the platform, where they have accrued some 213k followers, though they haven’t been alone in recent months.

A considerable number of individuals, artists and companies have left the platform, with a number of them doing so in protest of its divisive owner Elon Musk and his various, now seemingly tenuous ties, to the current U.S. administration. Others who have exited have voiced concern with the alleged rise of hate-related content on the social media platform under Musk‘s reign.

And then there’s those like Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, whodeparted the platform this past April over concerns with the alleged lack of account security, after repeatedly having been hacked on the platform.

While this latest move to leave X is already proving controversial for some, Nuclear Blast, whose roster over the years has included Meshuggah, Slayer, Machine Head, In Flames and many more over its decades-long run, has invited some backlash in recent years, particularly with their signings of As I Lay Dying and Marilyn Manson.

Both of those artists have developed divisive reputations amid allegations to emerge in the past 5 years or so, and in the case of As I Lay Dying vocalist Tim Lambesis, also for being sentenced to prison back in 2014 after being convicted in a murder-for-hire plot targeting his ex-wife.

In their brief exit statement, Nuclear Blast stated today, June 12th, that they’ll be vacating X in 48 hours, but will remain active on Instagram, TikTok, Bluesky, Facebook, YouTube & Spotify.
