Despite the latest bouts of controversy that played out across the past half a year or so, Tim Lambesis seemingly remains committed to once again rebuilding As I Lay Dying. By now you’re likely aware that troubling behavior exhibited by Lambesis and his estranged wife Dany led every member of the aforementioned metalcore band to exit the fold late last year.
The public caught glimpse of the matter via a series of leaked security camera footage, which often found Tim in an highly agitated state, repeatedly yelling, hitting himself and more amid arguments with Dany. Weeks ahead of that leaked footage, the Californian metalcore band’s lineup had imploded in the public eye.
Each outgoing member of the band dropped individual statements vaguely outlining their reasons for leaving, all of which seemed to indicate concerning behavior within the group’s camp that they could not condone. Tim for his part initially brushed off the mass exodus of members, vowing to continue on with the band, despite being reduced to being its sole remaining member. Several weeks later though, the above-mentioned leaked home security footage of Lambesis began to circulate.
In response, Lambesis issued a statement, in which he accused his then wife of assault and verbal abuse, while also indicating he had served her divorce papers just ahead of the footage leaking. Tim contended that the footage was ‘retaliation’ for him filing for divorce. In that statement, he also explained his erratic behavior in the aforementioned footage as being ‘anxiety filled reactions’ to stressful situations.
While things began to cool down in the public eye afterwards, Tim partook in this interview in January, which saw him further explaining his side of the band’s latest exodus of members and his own personal struggles with mental health. Two days later, footage of Tim acting physically abusive towards his dog leaked online.
This past April saw former As I Lay Dying guitarist Ken Susi open up on what led to the band’s 2024 lineup meltdown. Appearing on the BREWTALLY Speaking Podcast, Susi set out to refute Lambesis‘s claims, telling his own side of the troubling behavior and incidents that led to the band’s 2024 implosion, sparing few details.
Since then, it has been relatively quiet on the As I Lay Dying front, at least until now. FM Music Management, who also represent the likes of Testament, Exodus and more, have just announced that they’ve picked up As I Lay Dying as a client. It remains as yet unclear who will be joining Lambesis in this next incarnation of the group, who as of press time, have cycled through 15 members, excluding touring musicians.
It also remains to be seen how fans of the band will approach this latest attempt at a comeback from Lambesis, who previously managed to relaunch the band after being sentenced to prison in 2014. Tim was incarcerated after he plead guilty to a charge of solicitation of another to commit murder for an incident that took place back in 2013.
in 2013, Lambesis attempted to hire an undercover cop posing as a hitman to murder his then wife. She and Lambesis shared 3 adopted children at the time. He went on to spend nearly two years in jail for that crime before being paroled in 2016.
After his release, he went on to reunite As I Lay Dying with the band’s previous lineup back in place, however, over time, much of that roster began to quit, leading Lambesis and the band’s tenured guitarist Phil Sgrosso to once again rebuild the roster that eventually fell apart late last year.
