Yesterday (March 07th) was a day of firsts for progressive alternative metal powerhouse Tool. Not only did it serve as the launch of their first-ever destination festival, ‘Tool Live In The Sand‘, it also marked their first proper live performance since June of last year (well, sans a surprise mini-set at the Bass Magazine Awards in January.)
‘Tool Live In The Sand” is a three-day festival being held on a beach in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and precedes the storied band’s first-ever South American headlining tour. However, with a hefty price tag attached and travel included for many fans attending this festival, the band’s setlist for the opening night didn’t exactly set a high bar.
While there’s the added bonus of catching the band in a tropical idyllic setting, those hoping for the multi-platinum group to deliver some choice rare cuts or step outside of their usual selection of songs for the big event were largely left wanting. Instead, per those that attended, the following setlist was played:

The group will next be back onstage at the festival for a second set today, March 08th. Coheed And Cambria, Primus (feat. Danny Carey on drums) and Mastodon are among the various other acts also booked to perform at that festival. Upon winding down the fest and their subsequent March touring, Tool are expecting to spend three months working on new material for their highly anticipated next release.
