Those lucky enough to attend the upcoming send-off for Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne will have the privilege of hearing reunited thrash metal juggernauts Slayer performing a cover a Sabbath tune. You may recall that Slayer previously took on Black Sabbath‘s “Hand Of Doom” for the 2000 Sabbath tribute album, “Nativity In Black II“.
The aforementioned who’s who celebration of the pioneering heavy metal outfit and the solo career of Ozzy Osbourne has been dubbed ‘Back To The Beginning‘ and will be held July 05th at Villa Park in Birmingham, UK.
Slayer are among the stacked roster announced for the event, and according to their guitarist Kerry King, the storied group have already begun rehearsing their undisclosed cover. Speaking with Spin, King speculated that had Slayer not already returned to the stage last year, he would have pushed for the group to return for the above-mentioned farewell show for the metal legends:
“I probably would have done that if that was the only show that I did. That’s an important day. I think that’s going to be a huge moment for the fans, but it’s going to be a huge moment for me. It’s a huge moment in rock history.”
Later in the discussion with the aforementioned publication, King also noted that at the age of 60, he plans to keep up a prolific pace with his eponymous solo project, offering:
“This time I’m super-focused. I’m not a kid and I can’t have five-year gaps between records. We talk about it all the time. As soon as cycle one is over, get into the studio—take your tour momentum, take your tour chops, and go in and bust out the next one.”
