Sacramento, CA alternative metal favorites Deftones kicked off what has shaped up to be their biggest U.S. headlining tour to date tonight, February 25th. That ambitiously booked trek finds the multi-platinum band out headlining with support from prog rock faction The Mars Volta and rising grungegaze outfit Fleshwater.
With a tenth studio album from Deftones waiting in the wings, fan anticipation for this trek is understandably high. Tonight’s tour kickoff took place at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, a state which the band’s frontman/guitarist Chino Moreno relocated his home base to several years ago.
Those hoping for a taste of new material at this first show of the year of the band were left wanting, but the venerated group did dust off a pair of tracks that hadn’t been performed in some time in “Hole In The Earth” and early favorite “Bored“. In case you were wondering, guitarist Stephen Carpenter was also present for last night’s show.
Here’s how the setlist ran:
“Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)”
“My Own Summer (Shove It)”
“Diamond Eyes”
