Press activities around today’s (February 02nd) 67th annual GRAMMY Awards celebrations saw Spiritbox vocalist Courtney LaPlante mistakenly identified as fellow nominee Poppy during an interview on the red carpet. Spiritbox were up for Best Metal Performance at the awards with their song “Cellar Door“. Poppy meanwhile was in contention for that same award for her guest appearance on Knocked Loose‘s “Suffocate“.
Instead of correcting the interviewer and potentially causing a rather awkward moment, LaPlante gracefully leaned into to the interviewer’s erroneous assumption, embracing her new role as ‘Poppy‘. Not only did she actually amusingly recall actual moments of Poppy‘s recent activities, she also even snuck in a nod to her actual self.
Ultimately, both Spiritbox and Poppy wound up going home emptyhanded from the awards, with Gojira winning the aforementioned award for their Paris Olympics opening theme “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)“. Spiritbox and Poppy have of course hit it off together, which is perhaps why LaPlante instead decided to have fun maintaining her unintended rouse throughout the interview.
