It would seem that the question mark unfortunately hanging over the status of pioneering alternative metal outfit Faith No More remains in place, even within the band’s own camp. Last October, keyboardist Roddy Bottum stated the band were on a ‘semi-permanent hiatus‘.
This was of course disappointing news to fans of the highly influential band, who reunited after close to a dozen years away back in 2009, before issuing their comeback album “Sol Invictus” in 2015.
The pandemic years however hit the group hard, causing them to scrap numerous shows. As it was later revealed, their vocalist Mike Patton‘s mental health had deteriorated during the pandemic, leading to him developing severe agoraphobia. Since then, he has gone on to undergo therapy and has resumed touring with another of his various outfits, the reactivated Mr. Bungle.
While some have been holding out hope that perhaps Bottum‘s above-mentioned assessment would rattle some cages and get the band closer to at least getting back onstage, it appears that’s not the case. Bassist Billy Gould was recently interviewed by Radio Futuro and was asked about the status of the outfit, he responded:
“I don’t know. I honestly don’t know. And you don’t have to believe me, but there’s nothing… Right now we’re in a really weird spot, a really strange spot, and I can’t really tell you what’s going on. I don’t know myself. I get different information from people, and I’m in the band, so…”
For his own part, it seems that if Gould had his way, the group would already be back onstage. When it was suggested that he calls the shots in the band, he joked that if that were actually the case the group would already be playing shows.
