Earlier today, September 16th, it was announced that multi-platinum alternative rock outfit Jane’s Addiction had shelved the rest of their fall reunion tour and gone on hiatus in the wake of this past Friday’s onstage altercation between vocalist Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro.

Farrell‘s wife shared her account of the incident online afterwards, citing her husband’s issues with his voice, hearing and the sound mix onstage. However but that concert was unfortunately the latest in a a string of questionable and erratic performances from Farrell on the band’s summer reunion tour.

An official statement issued on behalf of the group this morning didn’t point fingers, but a joint statement since shared by all members of the band (Navarro, bassist Eric Avery & drummer Stephen Perkins) sans Farrell made it clear that Farrell‘s mental health issues were the reason for the tour being spiked. That statement reads as follows:

“Due to a continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour.

Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs.

We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets. We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis.

Our hearts are broken.
Dave, Eric and Stephen.”

Conversely, the official statement issued by the band this morning read as follows:

“To all the fans,

The band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group.

As such, they will be cancelling the remainder of the tour.

Refunds for the cancelled dates will be issued at your point of purchase – or if you purchased from a third-party resale site like StubHub, SeatGeek, etc, please reach out to them direct.

Thank you,
Jane’s Addiction“

While Jane’s Addiction have remained active when it comes to touring in recent years, it was only this past spring that the group were able to fully reunite their classic era lineup. Bassist Eric Avery rejoined in 2022, but it wasn’t until this May of this year that Navarro was able to rejoin his bandmates, having been sidelined by his ongoing struggles with long COVID. The subsequent touring this year marked the first time aforementioned four musicians had been back on the road together since 2010. This year also saw the reunited lineup release their first new song in 34 years in the form of “Imminent Redemption“.
