Sum 41 vocalist/guitarist Deryck Whibley has shot down the rumors that he has signed on to front Linkin Park for the latter’s widely expected reunion touring that is rumored for next year.

Fans had begun to guess that Whibley would be taking on the role in the diamond-certified nü-metal band, given his past live performances with members of the group (see here and here). Given that both Linkin Park and Whibley had mystery announcements lined up for tomorrow, August 28th, and Sum 41 are currently winding down their career, many had thought they’d solved the mystery.

In a statement shared to his social media today, Whibley shot down those rumors, stating:

“I FEEL THE NEED TO DISPEL SOME CURRENT RUMORS. IT’S BEEN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT MANY PEOPLE THINK I COULD BE JOINING A REUNITING BAND. BUT I JUST WANT TO SAY, DESPITE POPULAR BELIEF, I AM NOT JOINING OASIS…. OR LINKIN PARK. OR ANY OTHER BAND FOR THAT MATTER.

I HAVE MY OWN “TOUR AND BOOK” ANNOUNCEMENT THAT I WILL NOW MOVE TO THE END OF THE WEEK, AHEAD OF OUR US TOUR. I DO LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING WHATEVER BOTH THESE AMAZING BANDS DO IN THE FUTURE.”

Rumors of Linkin Park‘s return have been circulating for some time now with Orgy vocalist Jay Gordon seemingly spilling the beans initially last April. He would later deny his comments, which indicated that the group had recruited a female singer in place of the late Chester Bennington. Not long after that, Billboard ran this report, indicating that Linkin Park had been fielding offers for 2025 touring, with an unidentified female singer in tow.

Things began to reach a fever pitch last week however, with Linkin Park launching this mystery countdown timer, which will end in an announcement tomorrow, August 28th. That timer was shared by at least one high profile festival, the annual ‘Welcome To Rockville‘.
