Rex Brown Says Pantera Did Not Record A Live Album Last Week: "That Was A Joke"

Pantera bassist/vocalist Rex Brown has shot down rumors that the band recorded a live album late last week. Comedian Craig Gass opened the band’s intimate August 15th club show at the First Avenue in Minneapolis, MN, which they performed under the ‘surprise’ name of CFH — an acronym for their 1990 opus “Cowboys From Hell“.

Prior to the band hitting the stage that night, Gass told the audience in attendance:

“Announcement number one. The band you are seeing tonight is not called Cowboys From Hell. You are about to watch an exclusive show from the band Pantera. The rumors got out quickly, you guys bought up all the tickets. And you may have heard this rumor. And this is also true. We are recording our first-ever live album right here at the First Avenue. So, there’s a couple things you need to know about it. First of all, you will all, for eternity, be heard on a live Pantera album. That’s the good news. The bad news, you’re not gonna get paid for this. Welcome to the music business.”

Now taking to social media, Brown has revealed that the above statement from Gass was actually a joke and that the set was not recorded for a future release. As Brown put it in the below post, “What a great night! And no, we didn’t record a live album that night. That was a joke that @craiggasscomedy made!”
