Pantera‘s current incarnation, which finds guitarist Zakk Wylde and drummer Charlie Benante in place of the Texan groove metal band’s beloved late brotherly duo of “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott and Vinnie Paul Abbott respectively, appear to have recorded their first live album.

The group took to the stage at First Avenue in Minneapolis, MN this past Thursday, August 15th, performing a ‘surprise’ set under the name of CFH – a nod to the title of their 1990 breakthrough album “Cowboys From Hell“. Prior to the band’s show that night, comedian Craig Gass delivered a stand-up set to the audience, during which he broke the news of the recording plans, offering:

“Announcement number one. The band you are seeing tonight is not called Cowboys From Hell. You are about to watch an exclusive show from the band Pantera. The rumors got out quickly, you guys bought up all the tickets. And you may have heard this rumor. And this is also true. We are recording our first-ever live album right here at the First Avenue. So, there’s a couple things you need to know about it. First of all, you will all, for eternity, be heard on a live Pantera album. That’s the good news. The bad news, you’re not gonna get paid for this. Welcome to the music business.”

After stating that, he instructed the crowd to assist the staff running sound for the show in checking levels with crowd audience noise. The setlist for the aforementioned club show featured a pair of special guests, with both Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist/vocalist Robert Trujillo stepping in on vocals for Pantera‘s signature track, “Walk“. Fan-filmed footage of that going down can be seen in this story from yesterday.

The setlist for the concert in question ran as follows:

A New Level
Mouth For War
Strength Beyond Strength
Becoming
I’m Broken
Suicide Note Pt. II
This Love
Fucking Hostile
Walk” (feat. Kirk Hammett & Robert Trujillo of Metallica)
Domination“/”Hollow
Cowboys From Hell
Yesterday Don’t Mean Shit
