Influential symphonic black metallers Dimmu Borgir have unveiled their plans to issue a new covers album on December 08th. That effort, “Inspiratio Profanus“, is a compilation of previously released covers the band have recorded and released throughout 30-year run. Given the various different eras and timeframes these covers originated during, the outfit have seen fit to remaster the tracks.
Guitarist/bassist Silenoz commented:
“We’re pleased to announce the Inspiratio Profanus release! We thought it was about time to finally compile the cover songs we’ve done over the years and give these renditions an updated mastering, all in one package, highlighting some of our many influences!”
A remastered version of Venom‘s “Black Metal” is the first song to be shared from the release, with Silenoz stating of it:
“‘Black Metal‘, the track and its origin, features something really primeval, raw and unhinged. There is lawlessness and danger connected to it. We did our best to capture the spirit of the ancient gods’ rock ’n roll 24 years later. Did we do it justice? I think so.”
In addition to this covers outing, the group have also been hammering out new material as well. They briefly touched on that via social media:
“We thought we’d offer a little something while we are held up concocting new alchemic brews in our lab.
Now, many of you have these cuts in your possession already, but nevertheless, we figured it’d be good to have all the covers we’ve done over the years compiled under one release. We aptly chose Inspiratio Profanus as the title for this purpose and we hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we do! Consider this a homage to some of the artists that have inspired us and still do.”
