Silent Majority guitarist Rich Jacovina has passed away. A staple in the Long Island melodic hardcore scene, Silent Majority would go on leave an influential legacy. Jacovina‘s cause of death was not readily made available, but his bandmates and friends have begun paying tribute to him online.
Chris Enriquez of Spotlights:
“Growing up in the Long Island Hardcore scene as an outsider trying to get in wasn’t easy. My friends in high school and I admired what your friends created/built and little did some of us know it would be the foundation for the rest of our lives in one way or another whether it was some kind of musical direction, or simply creating bonds at your shows with other like minded people who would go on to be best friends forever and create memories stemmed from what you guys built.
I played a show opening for you in one of my old bands, Runner Up and the other band was On the Might of Princes, which I later joined. You had written “SM ❤’s OTMOP” in the bands mailing list and it caught my eye. You guys were intimidating to us so to see you showing love to outsiders was very heartwarming.
Later on when I would eventually join the band, we had played with your other band Heads Vs Breakers and I had nice conversations with you and my singer Jason Rosenthal (RIP) eventually moved in with you. I haven’t seen you in years but we’ve messaged online here and there.
There was never a moment you weren’t kind, sweet and generous with your time. You were always positive as well. I’ve never stopped listening to your music or being inspired by you and your friends even though I’m in my 40’s now. When Arthur Shepherd and I decided to relaunch Wreck-Age records, doing “Life of a Spectator” was a no brainer and the love was very clear from the amount of people who purchased the re-issue and all the merch.
I’m honored to have had the chance to work with you and your band on its re-issue while you were still here in physical form. Your spirit and being will live on through everyone’s memories as well as continued through your music that we have for the rest of our lives on earth. Thank you ❤
Much love to Silent Majority, their families, friends and everyone who’s lives were touched in one way or another by Rich!”
