The story that went viral over the past weekend of two elderly men escaping their nursing home and attending the annual ‘Wacken Open Air‘ festival in Wacken, Germany didn’t exactly play out as initial reports suggested.
The Associated Press have since provided more specifics to the incident in a new report, revealing that the two men in question were actually 58 and 59. Together they escaped a home they had been staying in for those with mental health issues. Rather than escaping to attend the festival, it would also seem that they just escaped to party in the town of Wacken as festival-goers found the duo “helpless, disoriented and intoxicated” while waiting for a bus in the middle of the night.
Those concerned citizens alerted the authorities, who then saw to pair’s return to the facility.
