TMZ report that a stagehand’s mistake was apparently the reason why Metallica frontman James Hetfield‘s mic wasn’t working during the first minute or so of the band’s live pairing with Lady Gaga last night. Both Gaga and the band performed the Metallica track “Moth Into Flame” together yesterday, February 12th, at the 59th annual Grammys.
However, as you can see from the footage, technical issues marred the first half of the song. A visibly frustrated Hetfield can be seen throwing his guitar to a tech at the end of the performance. According to TMZ:
“Sources connected to the production tell us everything was fine right before the “Moth Into Flame” collab was about to begin. Gaga and the band’s line check, right before the performance, went off without a hitch. However, between the mic check and their act … a wire under the stage got unplugged. We’re told a stagehand did it by accident, but the damage was done”
