The Trichordist have compiled the gross streaming revenue results of an indie label with an 150 album catalog in a new report. Using data generated by the 115 million streams the label pulled in over the calendar year of 2016, they put together the average payout and market share for 30 streaming services.

When it came to streaming, Spotify ruled supreme, commanding nearly 70% of the market share revenue and 62.97% of the streams. Unfortunately however, per the data, Spotify‘s payment per stream sits at 0.00437 compared to rival Apple‘s 0.00735 per stream. With Apple Music‘s streaming service only managing to account for 7.18% of the 115 million streams, the label didn’t get to reap much from the higher pay rate.

Another point of interest when it comes to streaming content was the data shared for YouTube. Plays via the streaming video giant accounted for 21.70% of the market share, but only 3.81% of the market share revenue. You can dig into the charts and subsequent report with comparisons to their 2014 findings over at at The Trichordist. Admittedly, we’ve certainly seen reports like this before, but not with a this large of a data set, making it a particularly interesting look at the still nascent format.
