Deftones frontman Chino Moreno has commented to CBS of his band’s own experience in Paris, France during last night’s (November 13th) terrorist attacks. According to Moreno, he and his family were at dinner during the attacks and were ushered to safety. He did mention that some of the band were in attendance at the Eagles Of Death Metal concert at Le Bataclan prior to the attack however. All of the band are now safe and accounted for however.
That particular incident saw several armed assailants take over the Le Bataclan venue during Eagles Of Death Metal‘s set and open fire on the crowd. The situation was later ended by the police with at least 100-120 people thought to be dead at the hands of the terrorists in the venue alone. The violence was part of a series of coordinated terrorist attacks across an area of Paris that took place last night. Moreno went on to tell CBS:
“Yeah, we’re safe, we weren’t scheduled to play at the Bataclan until tomorrow night. A couple of band members, they went to the concert, but they left early—after the first few songs they ended up leaving the venue. They got out of there and all of our band and crew are safe and accounted for at the hotel now. So, we are just here, we’re pretty much on lockdown. They told everybody pretty much to stay indoors and don’t go out, because they’re still—everything is still unfolding as we speak.”
As Moreno mentioned, the Deftones were scheduled to perform a three-day run of shows at Le Bataclan that would have begun today, November 14th. Those shows have now been cancelled with himself , his family and the band looking to exit Paris—a departure which is currently not on the table due France’s borders being closed in the wake of the attack.
