Korn guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer has spoken with Billboard.com in regards to their new album progress. Shaffer has jokingly referred to the material as being “newer metal” and said of the band’s progress:
“I’d say we’re about a third of the way done, We wrote about 20 songs and about 10 of those we’ve kept and made better. I think we’re gonna need to go back in and write another batch of songs and then fine-tune those into four, five really great songs. There’s no rush, which feels great. It’s time to take a little extra time and make a great album. I think it’s time to solidify our legacy, ’cause I’m really proud of it.”
A producer for the effort has been chosen, though Shaffer was not yet ready to divulge who it is. In other news, the group will be recording each of their upcoming self-titled album 20th anniversary shows, with some filming also planned. Though things are still up in the air, a documentary of the tour is in the works at least. The band will also be performing an acoustic set before each show of the tour to those who buy VIP tickets.
