Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson opted to perform “The Trooper” from backstage during the band’s recent October 14th set at at Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa in Quito, Ecuador. That mid-set move came about in protest of the various flares being lit in the audience, the smoke from which caused Dickinson physical discomfort. Dickinson is said have pleaded with the audience to stop it with the flares, though some members chose not to heed his warning.
As you can see in the below fan-filmed footage, the smoke from the flare was venting directly toward the stage where the band were performing. Dickinson, a throat cancer survivor, has previously taken issue with weed smokers near the stage at the band’s live shows iin the past as well.
