Alternative metal outfit Staind have newly been awarded a pair of sales/streaming certifications in the United States. The band, who are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their third studio album “Break The Cycle” with both the recent release of a live performance of it, and an ongoing anniversary tour, have just received new multi-platinum certifications for that album and its hit lead single, “It’s Been Awhile“.
The album itself has newly attained 7x multi-platinum status in the U.S., having last been certified 5x platinum back in September of 2003. “It’s Been Awhile” meanwhile has surged closer to attaining diamond status, having newly been certified 8x platinum. It was last certified gold back in September of 2008.
*A platinum album/single in the United States represents 1,000,000 units, while gold signifies 500,000 units. Outside of traditional physical/digital sales, the certifications factor in digital streams/downloads with 10 permanent track downloads counting as 1 unit and 1500 on-demand audio/video streams from a particular album also counting as as a unit. 150 streams of a song also equate to a track-equivalent unit.
