Following a feud with Gorillaz earlier this month, Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats have announced the details for their seventh studio album. The British psych rock outfit drew partial inspiration for this record from Edgar Allan Poe‘s 1842 short story ‘The Masque Of The Red Death‘.
Analog recording sessions for the effort took place at the prestigious Abbey Road Studios in London, England, with engineer Chris Bolster (Ozzy Osbourne, Paul McCartney) behind the boards. The band’s ringleader, vocalist/guitarist Kevin Starrs, assumed the production duties, while Noel Summerville (The White Stripes, My Bloody Valentine) was brought on to master it.
A press release notes a stylistic shift present on this new opus, with the following passage spelling out what fans can expect:
‘The album marks a return to the guitar-forward attack of their earlier records, but also an evolution. Their blessed invocation of proto-metal heaviness is gilded by blasts of uncanny melancholic pop, bruising NWOBHM gallop, jazzy textures and complexities, and Krautrock-y cro-magnon synth damage. It’s a deliciously dark listen, for sure; as songwriter Kevin Starrs says, ‘Our albums exist in an alternate universe to our own. They’re all stories that could happen here, but everything’s just a bit ‘off.’’
For now, the title track to the record has newly been made available to stream online, following this past April’s “Don’t Let It Control You“.
