Sumerian Records have assembled a new tribute album to alternative rock legends The Smashing Pumpkins. The latter’s mastermind Billy Corgan has signed off on this tribute, which was personally titled by Corgan himself. This tribute has been dubbed “Sending Hearts To All My Dearies – A Tribute To The Smashing Pumpkins,” and is scheduled for an August 14th digital release. Vinyl formats will follow on October 16th.
The title is a nod to the the lyrics of the track “Mayonaise” off of The Smashing Pumpkins‘ 4x platinum 1993 album “Siamese Dream“. An assorted list of artists will be taking part in this compilation, including prog metal vets Between The Buried And Me covering “Jellybelly” and Nita Strauss (Alice Cooper, etc.) taking on “1979“. Dark synthwave artist Carpenter Brut is also involved, taking on “Cherub Rock“.
Tame Impala‘s take on “Hummer” both opens up the record and serves as the lead single from this tribute. That band’s linchpin Kevin Parker stated, ‘Siamese Dream‘ was the soundtrack to my high school years and ‘Hummer‘ is the song that takes me back there in the most potent way.”
