Former Snot/Sevendust guitarist Sonny Mayo is recovering from emergency triple bypass heart surgery. This crowdfunding campaign has been launched to help aid his recovery, with the following being offered of his condition via organizer Megan Wright:
“Our dear friend Sonny suffered a heart attack and had a life saving triple bypass surgery. Please support Lara and Sonny while he recovers over the next couple months. The first month home will be full time care taking for Lara and will be the highest risk for infections and sickness so bringing meals to them will support his recovery tremendously! If you can’t bring a meal please continue to cover them in prayer!”
Sonny previously suffered two heart attacks in 2018. At that time he was diagnosed with genetic coronary artery disease and was seeking allogeneic mesenchymal adult stem cell treatment. He stepped down from Snot in April of 2025.
Outside of his band pursuits, Mayo has been involved with Rock To Recovery — a non-profit founded by ex-(hed)p.e. guitarist Wesley Geer. That organization aims to aid those suffering from mental health, addiction, injuries and more via the healing power of music.
