Despite coming up around the same time together in the Seattle, WA scene that gave birth to grunge, Dave Grohl seemingly slept on his peers in Alice In Chains. Grohl, himself the drummer of Nirvana at the time, found superstardom with that outfit, with his peers in Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains serving as further pillars of the grunge movement that followed.

However, despite the close proximity and shared haunts between those bands, it would appear that somehow the music of Alice In Chains didn’t really manage to capture Grohl‘s attention until decades later. It’s a revelation that he’s since rectified now, crediting his daughters Violet and Harper for renewing his interest in the Alice In Chains catalog, which Dave now describes as his current favorite band.

Grohl made that proclamation during a recent interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music. After the pair got to talking about the difficulties in finding musicians capable of handling the roles of late grunge stars like Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and Soundgarden‘s Chris Cornell, Lowe also brought up departed Alice In Chains vocalist Layne Staley.

It was Lowe‘s mention that triggered Grohl to express his newfound admiration for Alice In Chains, with the Foo Fighters ringleader stating:

“Oh my god, dude. Here’s the best thing about being with Violet or Harper in a car: I have this newfound love of Alice In Chains. Like it’s back. They’re like my favorite band now. They should have been 35 years ago, but now I’m like, ‘Wait, where was I on that one?’

Grohl‘s aforementioned appearance on ‘The Zane Lowe Show‘ centered around last week’s release of the Foo Fighters‘ twelfth studio album, “Your Favorite Toy“. You can watch that chat below:
