Swedish doom metal outfit Monolord are ready to unveil what they cooked up with producer Sylvia Massy (Tool, System Of A Down) this past fall. The group concluded tracking that sixth full-length opus in November 2025 and have since titled it “Neverending“. Standing as their first record in some five years, it will be out May 29th on Relapse Records.
The sessions for it effectively cleaned out the band’s vaults, as vocalist/guitarist Thomas Jäger revealed that Massy requested to hear everything the band had been working on, both new and old:
“She asked me to send her everything we had—not just songs written for the album, but every stray riff and idea. I even sent her stuff I’d written ten years ago. She listened to all of it and sent us a list of what she wanted to work on.”
While 12 songs came about as a result of those sessions, only 11 were recorded. With the fate of the holdovers remaining under wraps, 8 of those songs made the cut for “Neverending“. Jäger noted that this effort somewhat transcends the doom territory the band have come to be known for, offering, “This isn’t really what people would call a doom album. It feels like a mix of that and something new.”
The song “You Bastard” emerges as the first to make it out in advance of “Neverending“, appearing online flanked by a music video that was directed by James Rexroad.
