It’s time to ring in the new year with a look back at the year that was. 2025 was an interesting 12 months for the heavy music scene, full of some surprising mainstream chart success, sold out arena headline tours and more. Encouragingly, those accolades weren’t just limited to just the usual suspects either.

But while artists new and old have been rising up the ranks, there’s no denying that 2025 was bittersweet. We were met with a staggering amount of loss as so many metal and rock icons left this mortal coil, including the veritable godfather of the genre: Ozzy Osbourne.

On a more positive note, Theprp continued its upward momentum in 2025, besting a stellar 2024. 2025 also saw Theprp receiving its second most trafficked year to date — one hell of an accomplishment for its 26th year. Personally, 2025 was a very trying year, with illness and months of recovery in the immediate family making running this site incredibly challenging at times. You may have noticed some lapses in coverage, but thankfully, in recent weeks, things appear to be getting back to normal with positive outcomes all around.

Adversity aside, this year saw Theprp.com receive its first major overhaul in roughly a decade, with the site having newly been rebuilt from the group up backend wise. Months of work led to addressing numerous lingering issues that had begun to pile up with the past incarnation of the site, while also adding modern functionality, features and increased speed and stability.
