Ragga metal outfit Skindred will be releasing their ninth studio album, “You Got This“, on April 17th through Earache. The inspirational title track to that outing has just been released well in advance alongside a Steve Clarke-directed music video.
As a press release has explained, the idea for the song came to vocalist Benji Webbe after seeing a man in a gym struggling with his physical rehabilitation after suffering a stroke. The personal trainer told the man, “You got this,” helping alleviate his mood. As Webbe put it:
“I was watching from a distance, and I could see the struggle and the pain, but in that moment, I knew he had got this. It’s such an empowering statement and it applies to so many battles that everybody faces: it could be a recovery from a stroke, or it could be studying for your exams at school. For me, having songs that lift people who are going through tough times is the most important thing. I feel like that’s what I’m put on this planet to do.”
Recording sessions for this new outing were helmed by producer Jay Ruston (Stone Sour, Anthrax), who also handled the mixing duties.
