This year’s first season of ‘Alien: Earth‘ took the decades-old ‘Alien‘ franchise in unexpected new directions. And while the twists and turns found in the sci-fi horror series were somewhat divisive, it would appear the soundtrack choices were equally as controversial to some.
Nearly every episode of the Noah Hawley (‘Fargo‘, ‘Legion‘) created FX TV adaptation featured a hard rock-oriented needle drop to close out the episodes. Among them:
Black Sabbath‘s “The Mob Rules“
Tool‘s “Stinkfist“
Metallica‘s “Wherever I May Roam“
Jane’s Addiction‘s “Ocean Size“
The Smashing Pumpkins‘ “Cherub Rock“
Godsmack‘s “Keep Away“
Queens Of The Stone Age‘s “Song For The Dead“
Pearl Jam‘s “Animal“.
One post-hardcore/prog rock veteran wasn’t too thrilled about the relatively rock radio-friendly song choices being included in the sci-fi show, as Cedric Bixler-Zavala has voiced his displeasure on social media today, October 23rd. In a post made on his Instagram, Cedric stated:
“No more “Unc” rock at the end of alien earth episodes please. Fucking monster energy drink bullshit.
It would appear that Cedric‘s concerns were directed more towards the transitions into the songs being jarring, than merely lamenting the artists that were chosen. When a fan replied to Cedric asking “Wait what’s wrong with Tool and QOTSA?“, Cedric replied directly, “Nothing at all. It just doesn’t fit on that show. It feels like Nancy Reagan pushing her DARE agenda on me but with that kinda music”
