While metal was actually represented onstage at this year’s ‘MTV Video Music Awards‘ amid tonight’s (September 07th) official awards ceremony at the UBS Arena in New York City, the ‘Best Rock’ category wasn’t exactly headbanger-friendly.
While metalheads had a reason to tune in to see the late Ozzy Osbourne get an all-star tribute in the form of a medley from YUNGBLUD, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Nuno Bettencourt and more, it was Coldplay who took home the ‘Best Rock’ award this year.
The British pop rock’s video for “All My Love” was named the winner for that category, having beaten out Linkin Park‘s comeback single “The Emptiness Machine” and Evanescence‘s ‘Devil May Cry‘ animated series track, “Afterlife“. Green Day‘s “One Eyed Bastard“, Lenny Kravitz‘s “Honey” and Twenty One Pilots‘ “The Contract” were also among the nominees for that category this year.
