Following the launch of an elaborate teaser site and various hints strewn across their social media, Iowa’s masked metal juggernauts Slipknot have opened the vaults for the official 25th anniversary edition of their landmark 1999 self-titled album.
That self-titled effort saw the band explode onto the scene at large, catapulting them to mainstream success. It went on to attain gold status in the United States in late January of 2000, with a platinum certification being awarded several months later in May of that year. It currently stands at 2x platinum status and was celebrated by the band throughout much of last year with an extensive 25th anniversary tour.
While their label at the time, Roadrunner Records, mined the archives with several deluxe/digipak editions that have emerged since, the band have since dug in even further, unearthing more rarities and ephemera from the era that established them as a mainstay in the upper metal echelon. The band’s percussionist M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan himself took charge of this new celebratory release, having been designated as “the band’s caretaker.”
The end result is a new ‘blood-filled vinyl’ box set compiling 59 recordings that date all the way back to the original Indigo Ranch demos for the album under producer Ross Robinson (Korn, Glassjaw). Limited to 100 units worldwide with a $250 price tag, it appears to have promptly sold out. Fans are unhappy about how the launch of the release was handled as well, as the teaser site itself fizzled under the weight of fan anticipation and ultimately made no indication of the release plans.
Update: July 21st, 2025 02:28pm:
The band have since confirmed via 742617000027.net that an additional 1,899 copies of the box set will be made available tomorrow, July 22nd at 03:00pm EST / 12:00pm PST / 08:00pm UK time and 09:00pm EU time.
