Linkin Park Confirm There's One Chester Bennington-Era Song That's "Just Too Sad To Play"

In a newly published interview with The Guardian, Linkin Park vocalist, etc. Mike Shinoda confirmed that at least one song from the diamond-certified nü-metal outfit’s catalog remains off the table at live shows. After losing their vocalist Chester Bennington to suicide back on July 20th of 2017, the group went on hiatus, remaining dormant — publicly at least — until re-emerging last year with their comeback album “From Zero” and an ongoing round of world touring in support of it. That return to active duty has found them back with some new faces, including vocalist Emily Armstrong in place of Bennington.

However, while the group have spent months now reestablishing their revised incarnation as an ongoing force, some elements of their past remain a bit too sacred for the time being. Case in point, “One More Light“, the third and final single to be shared from the band’s last album with Bennington.

In the wake of his death, that song became an anthem associated with him and his tragic passing. According to Shinoda, the group are seeking to honor the meaning fans have put behind that track, even if it wasn’t originally written with that exact intention.

He told the above-mentioned publication that the song was actually written, “for a woman at the label that we worked with who passed away. Then after Chester passed, the world decided that it was about him. And so that’s just too sad to play.”
