Gojira vocalist/guitarist Joe Duplantier guests on the newly revealed track “Ti Inan Paw-Pawkan” from Chilean metal band Mawiza. That song is taken from Mawiza‘s upcoming new album “ÜL“, due out July 18th on Season Of Mist. The Santiago-based band commented:
“This song is a lament for indigenous people who are living in the city, far away from the land. But it’s also a wake up call. Underneath the city, even when crushed by concrete, nature is always fighting to come out.”
Drummer Txalkan added:
“We wanted this song to sound like nature resisting the advancement of the city. Even when crushed by industrial pollution, nature is always pushing up from beneath the concrete.”
Duplantier himself shared praise for Mawiza and their message, offering:
“I love Mawiza! For their music, for who they are as individuals and for what they stand for. They represent and honor their powerful Mapuche heritage, amplifying its relevant message of connection with our roots and the universe as a whole. And they do so with determination and in the most modern way, with heavy riffs and an openness to new ideas and to the world. A conversation between past, present and future. Don’t give up the fight!”
An advance listening party for “ÜL” will be streamed via Bandcamp this Thursday, July 10th at 01:00pm EST / 10:00am PST.
