Primus have announced the release of a new 7″ for their latest song “Little Lord Fentanyl“. That track not only serves as their first recorded output with their newest drummer John Hoffman, it also finds them once again paired with Maynard James Keenan of Tool, A Perfect Circle & Puscifer fame.

The b-side on this 7″ is a live recording of Primus‘ “Duchess And The Proverbial Mind Spread“, as performed this past May 15th at the TD Pavilion at The Mann in Philadelphia, PA on the latest leg of the ‘Sessanta‘ tour.

That run served as the latest live celebration of Keenan turning 60 last year. You can find copies of that 7″ via clubbastardo.com, with an August 15th release date slated for the vinyl pressing. In the meantime, you can now stream its aforementioned b-side on digital services.

If you’re curious as to why the band opted to include a somewhat obscure track from 1997’s “Brown Album“, the choice stems from Hoffman‘s successful audition to land a spot in the band earlier this year. Hoffman described the track as his personal favorite to learn, with vocalist/bassist Les Claypool stating the following of his eventual take on it, “He’s the only one that picked it [for the audition], and he fucking killed it.”
